New York State legislators are at again with dietary supplements, proposing companion bills that relate to their safety. Less than two weeks ago, companion bills calling for companies to label whether or not products have undergone FDA testing were proposed. (See Top of the News from January 20th.)

Bills A03357 and S. 1670 both call for the establishment of a dietary supplements safety committee. The justification for introducing the bills, legislators claim, relates to dietary supplement advertising, which  include claims of rapid weight loss, increased strength or improved sexual stamina. They believe adequate standards and enforcement for manufacturing, safety and effectiveness are necessary to protect the health and well being of the residents of New York State.
